Tips for Renewable Energy Generation: How to Make Renewable Energy for Your Home

There are several ways that you can have enough renewable energy generation to provide all of the energy that you need for your home, including the use of solar panels and windmills. Making enough energy to take you off of the grid may not be easy, but it will help you reduce your personal carbon footprint and make your energy usage from traditional sources become very minimal.

Choose Your System Carefully

Many people use a combination of solar and wind power to help build their personal renewable energy generation to a level that will allow them to use absolutely no traditional types of power. Doing this does take some planning, especially if you want to use your renewable energy system quickly. The main problem you will have is knowing exactly how much energy you will need and figuring out where you can get this amount of power using natural sources.

For example, if you know that you want to use solar power, then you will need enough solar panels to produce all of the energy that your home uses to go off the grid. In addition to knowing how much power you will need, you also need to decide how you will get power when the sun simply is not shining. Renewable energy generation can be successful, but it is often wise to have a traditional power source in your home, as well.

Create a Back-up Plan

In some locations, renewable energy generation is only possible during certain times of the year. This is one reason that using both solar and wind power is recommended. Many regions have sunny, warm summers and cloudy, windy winters making solar great for summer and windmills better for the winter months. Since wind power does not create as much energy as solar power, you can use the windmills you have to supplement your traditional power source.

Getting Started

The first step that you will want to take when you begin renewable energy generation is to figure out exactly how many solar panels and windmills that you need, and then plan your budget. You may want to make some of your own solar panels to save money, and then splurge on a large solar battery that can help store your solar power for later use.

Windmills are also very easy to build and are much less expensive when you build them yourself. Commercial windmills are very efficient, however, so you may want to at least order the blades of your windmill from a commercial company so that your windmill produces the expected amount of energy.

Installing Your Energy Sources

When you are ready to begin your renewable energy generation, you will need to make sure that you have chosen the right location for your solar panels and windmills so that you receive the maximum amount of energy possible. Windmills work best when they are in open plains, while solar panels should face the South while in the Northern Hemisphere for best results.
